Focus areas:

The focused areas of NEST are broadly divided into: capacity development, social-enterprise development, creating economic opportunities and improving livelihoods, bring off-grid renewal energy solutions to the most underserved communities, women’s empowerment, promoting accountable governance, building community resilience and cooperate with all stakeholders for the development and dignity of people.

1.Capacity Development:

Capacity development is fundamental for the development of Nepal. Because capacity building is an investment in the effectiveness and sustainability of development work. To graduate from current least developed status, NEST designs and undertakes capacity building programs and projects to continue toward the effective and sustainability of development work. Capacity development programs and projects will be implemented in a wider range of development sectors. Our working approach includes a strong element of capacity development so that targeted groups, individuals, and organizations have required skills, knowledge, technologies, attitudes and expertise they need to sustainably plan and manage their own futures.

Capacity development is a clear need for the transformation to happen in an each working areas like agriculture, livestock, renewal energy (improved cook stove), social-enterprise development, community development including water sanitation and hygiene (WASH), governance, promotion of rights-based-approach, and restoring community cohesion. In addition, under these sectors, NEST enhances productive capacities of the targeted groups that create employment opportunities and livelihoods for the people in particular poor and marginalized people including both youth male and female. NEST facilitates processes of positive and sustainable changes through empowerment and mobilization of civil society. As a result all targeted people including women irrespective of social statues and economic condition will have equal access to public services. This is NEST mission.

2.Social-enterprise Development:

Social-enterprise development and community development are also the major sectors to help Nepal to graduate from least developed country. The social-enterprise development activities focus to the government of Nepal’s poverty reduction and job creation priorities bringing changes in the lives of targeted groups through livelihoods, salaried employment and self-employment. There is a great need to bring poor people out of poverty. So, it is very much needed to encourage people to become entrepreneurs and operate the businesses.

This sector will contribute to have a high capacity to promote the development of a vigorous and democratic society which supports opportunities for the poor and marginalized groups to improve their living conditions to enhance their own life circumstances and those of others. For long-term sustainable development of Nepal, entrepreneurs have to be up and functioning at the various levels of the production, and value-chain-marketing-system. We know that, to make our lives prosperous is not a matter of government services alone, but is closely linked to what is taking place in the community at large and in individual households.

3.Community Development:

The community development program and project seek to meet unmet economic development needs of the people with the belief that skill is basic for livelihood, skill can challenge poverty and a better world is possible through the transfer of skill. The community development program and project focus on improving the quality of lives of the poor and marginalized community and of its members. The culture of peace are linked and depend on overall physical, social and economic development of the community.

The community development program will lead to increased cooperation with promotion of renewal energy system, increased access to safe drinking water and sanitation (WASH), improve rural livelihoods, increase access to renewal energy to contribute to climate change mitigation, strengthening sustainable management of natural resources and agriculture systems making the community more resilient to disasters.

Within the sector of community development it increases of agriculture production and productivity, increases of livestock production and productivity, and interlinks with good governance. NEST designs and implements conflict sensitive interventions. Through these focused areas, NEST can contribute to nation’s goals including to its own goals of capacity enhancement, socio-economic enhancement, building resilient communities and promoting social cohesion.

4.Promotion and Community cohesion:

NEST ensures systematic implementation of programs and projects on these above mentioned thematic areas and focuses on the best of community. As a result, communities love each to another, avoids future potential division of the communities, ensures people’s security, avoids violent activities and enables people to live in a peaceful manner. NEST ensures inclusive approach for development together spirit. So, the future development is not undermined by divided segments of the community.

Capacity development, social-enterprise development, demand driven community development, community unity including transparent and accountable governance, inclusive development approach, and community unity are the vitals to help to achieve the desired goals of Prosperous Nepal and Happy Nepalese. In addition, NEST implements the programs and projects in such a way that honors human rights, creates conditions for sustainable development, put foundation stones towards a more vigorous, prosperous, stable, resilient, peaceful, and democratic society.
