PROGRAMS NEST has been working on three development programs to meet the organizational goal and objectives. + Training & services program + Community Development Program + Research and Consultancy Program TRAINING & SERVICES PROGRAMS NEST has been implementing the training program having professional competency since its establishment. NEST provides training to farmers, community groups and staffs of development organizations. NEST provides skill-based practical training. It not only delivers the training, but it adopts the full training cycle expecting the real change at work efficiency level. NEST training cycle includes: a) training need assessment, b) course design and curriculum development, c) training delivery, and d) follow-up and certification. The training is conducted in participatory learner-centered approach and fully based on adult learning principles. We believe that by combining the experience of the rural people and development workers with that of our trainers, we promote sustainable development process.
Training and services is the main program component of NEST. The primary objective of the training and service program is to empower community people enhance their livelihoods security. Next objective is strengthening the organizational capacity of different organizations through training. NEST conducts more than 200 short term trainings and provides training to more than 4000 people annually. Similarly, NEST reaches more than 30 districts and provides training and services to more then 60 organizations annually. NEST provides its training service in the following sectors. TOP 1. AGRICULTURE There are more than 20 standard training packages under three development themes help to meet the program objectives. Training on Kitchen Gardening, Seasonal and Off-Seasonal Vegetable Production, Fruit Cultivation, Mushroom Cultivation, Integrated Pest Management, Organic Farming, Bee Keeping Agro-Based Entrepreneurship Development, Garden Design, VAW are the major trainings in this sector. TOP 2. ANIMAL HEALTH & HUSBANDRY
There are more than 25 standard training packages under four development themes help to meet the program objectives. Village Animal Health Workers (VAHW), Village Livestock Development Workers (VLDW), Integrated Goat and Pig Raising, Enterprise Oriented Poultry Raising, Diary Animal Management, Nutrition for Production Enhancement, Fodder and forage Production and Management, Bird Flu and Related Myth, Rabbies Control and Eradication, Community Zoonotic Awareness are the major training packages in this sector. 3. FORESTRY BIODIVERSITY & CLIMATE CHANGE There are more than 40 standard training packages under five development themes contributing to meet the program objectives. Non-Timber Forest Product Management, Participatory Community Forest Management, Bio-briquette Production, Improved Cook Stove (ICS), Forest Inventory and Management, Bamboo Propagation and Cultivation, Forest Product Based Entrepreneurship Development, Jatrofa Cultivation and management, Natural Resource Management for Livelihoods Improvement, Broom Grass Propagation and Cultivation, Local Resource Person for Participatory Forest Management , Climate Change, Biodiversity Registration etc. are the major trainings provided under this sector. TOP 4. WATER, SANITATION & HYGIENE (WASH) There are more than 15 standard training packages under four development themes help to meet the program objectives. Village Maintenance Workers (VMW), Local Latrine Builders (LLB), Basic Plumbing, Basic Mason, Pre and Post Construction Management for WUC, Community Led Total Sanitation (CLTS), Survey, Design and Estimation of DWS, Water Resource Technician (WRT) are major trainings provided in this sector. TOP 5. SOCIAL AND ORGANIZATIONAL DEVELOPMENT TThere are more than 40 standard training packages under eight development themes contributing to meet the program objectives. CAB unit aims to support in developing a capable and competent human resources for GO/ NGO, INGO , LGA, and CBOs through different types of trainings like; ToT, PRA/PLA, Appreciative Inquiry, Social Mobilization, Community Development, Gender Equity and Social Inclusion, Rights Based Approach, NGO Management, Leadership Development, Participatory Planning and monitoring, , Proposal and Report Writing, Business plan, Entrepreneurship Development etc. TOP NEST also provides consultancy services in above mentioned areas. The following types of consultancy services have been providing by nest ; Organization Assessment, Project documentation, Strategic Plan Preparation, Market study, Base line study, Gender and social inclusion, Social audit, Community Action Plan, Village Profile preparation, Survey, design and estimate of WaSH sector, Other Studies and research under NEST thematic Area, Right based program planning, Program planning on social mobilization Model/Approach. TOP COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT PROGRAM The CD Program implements integrated community development projects partnering with NGOs and community-based organizations in close coordination with local government authorities, government institutions and other stakeholders. NEST has developed Project Partnership Policy document and Monitoring and Evaluation Policy document as well. NEST has been implementing community development projects for the last three years. NEST has initiated a pilot project on community development naming “Agro-based Income Generation Project (A-BIG Project)” in Dhampus VDC, Kaski district. The overall goal of the project is to improve livelihoods of rural community people through enhancing local economic activities. The project promotes agro-based income generation activities enhancing the technical know-how, practical skills and entrepreneurial capacity of the rural youths, women farmers and landless farmers. The working approach is basically the people-centered development � working with self-help groups and the federation of the groups in planning, implementing and monitoring of the project activities. NEST has mobilized its organizational reserve funds for the project implementation. The project is handed over to the community after one year. Now, the project has been running smoothly by the community itself. NEST had won the award on Nepal Development Marketplace 2005 (a joint venture of Poverty Alleviation Fund, Government of Nepal and World Bank) for the implementation of ‘Agro-based Income Generation Project’ in Biruwa Archale VDC, Syngja district. The Community Resource Management Project (CRMP) funded by BMS/Operation Agri, UK is being implemented in Deurali VDC of Nawalparasi district. This project was developed on the experience and learning acquired from “Slopping Agricultural Land Technology (SALT)” - a training project supported by BMS/Operation Agri, UK in the neighbouring VDCs of Deurali. The Livelihood Project Supported by World Vision International from October 2009. The project covers five village Development Committee (VDC) and Lekhnath Municipality of kaski district. The Livelihood Plus Project Supported by Finish evangelical luthern Mission (FELM) finland. The project implemented in kaski, Tnhun, Makwanpur and Kailali district in 2010 The Social Mobilization Program Supported by Supported by LGCDP, DDC Kaski and has been implementing in five VDCs of kaski district in 2010 The overall objective of the CRMP is to improve the socioeconomic status of Magar ethnic community through effective management of the local resources. The major project activities are: a) slopping agriculture land technology (SALT), b) agro-based income generation, c) community organization development, d) technical skill and knowledge development, e) community forest management, f) rural road construction, and g) awareness promotion campaigns. The project has been running in its full swing. Furthermore, the second phase of the project is being designed after sharing of the project progress and its impacts, and local stakeholders' demands with the BMS representative in Nepal. By evaluating the community development projects' progresses and learning, NEST has designed and developed about half a dozen community projects and the proposals are in the fundraising process.
