ABOUT US

NEST is a national level NGO located at Pokhara Working in the field of Training and Community Development. It was registered in District Administration Office(DAO), Kaski in 2059 and is affiliated to Social Welfare Council (SWC) in 2060. It has membership affiliation with NGO Federation, Kaski. NEST is member of Nepal Permaculture Group (NPG), and is working as its Western Regional Coordination Office.NEST is also a member of “Civil Society for Ppeace”, Pokhara.It has a regional office in Nepalgunj. Establishment of branch offices in other regions including Kathmandu is its future plan.

Credible, prominent and proficient NGO committed to uplift socio-economic status of poor and socially excluded people through social mobilization, capacity enhancement , research and advocacy.

GOAL

Goal 1: Support and promote to improve the livelihood condition of poor, socially excluded community and institutions through technical support and integrated capacity enhancement.

Goal 2: Empower the poor and socially excluded community taking into consideration for strengthening inclusive society and maintaining social peace through social mobilization , community development and advocacy

OBJECTIVES

  • Increase income of poor and socially excluded community , Local Service providers through technical support for local production, self-employment generation, accessibility to resources and market linkages in order to secure improved livelihood.
  • Enhance social and organizational capacity of individuals, institutions and poor and socially excluded community for quality service, program management and human resource development
  • Upgrade the level of awareness among poor and socially excluded community tough social mobilization and community development programs to increase access and quality of services
  • Support to strengthen gender balance and inclusiveness in the community and promote human rights and peace through advocacy.

ORGANIZATIONAL VALUES AND PRINCIPLES

The culture of an organization includes those values that determine how the organization works and behaves. The following values describe the behaviours expected to be possess by all members, staffs, volunteers and advisors who represent and work for NEST.

NEST Values and Principles

Organizational values define and determine the acceptable standards which govern the behavior of individuals within the organization. The following values describe the behaviors expected to be expressed by all members/staffs/volunteers/advisors/who represent and work for NEST.

Participation:

Participation involves the feeling of ownership, brings out empowerment, aids creativity, and facilitates the transformation of the problem into an opportunity. NEST puts into these participatory approaches in all its organizational functioning.

Special priority towards poor and marginalized sector:

NEST commits for special priority towards the poor and marginalized sectors in executing its all activities. It emphasizes that all sorts of discriminations and negative attitudes towards them be changed.

Transparency:

NEST gives emphasis on transparent execution of its activities. Open information is always provided to its all stakeholders regarding policy decisions, working procedures, activities, programs, economic source, income and expenditure. We believe that transparency leads to credibility towards the organization and thus fortifying its name and fame.

Equity and Equality:

NEST adheres to the principles of social justice, respects the individual and collective rights of all people and disregards the discrimination to mankind based on ethnicity, gender, religion and social class.

Professional competency:

NEST desires to be recognized with good moral and credibility. In addition, it wants to be well known as an ideal organization by incorporating professional competency in all of its program and services. Its' members and staff are always guided by economic discipline, courtesy, mutual respect, enthusiasm to share knowledge among each other and with its' stakeholders. Its' family always accept progressive change in drawing towards organizational competency and reputation.

Environmental and cultural sensitivity:

NEST recognizes and appreciates the rich environmental and cultural diversity within the nation as a source of incredible strength and strives to preserve and sustain the unique values, traditions and identity of people.

NEST ORGANIZATIONAL STRUCTURE


NEST General Assembly (GA) consists of 35 general members. Being an NGO, the Executive Committee (EC), elected by the GA is the governing body. The EC is comprised of nine members. The EC has tenure of three years.

NEST has a central office in its own building having a compound of 1750 square meter land area situated in Pokhara. NEST has established the Program Management Committee (PMC), chaired by the NEST Executive Director, ex-officio Secretary, consists of Program Director, Program Coordinators and Administration and Finance Officer. The EC has developed a ‘Terms of Reference (ToR)’ for the PMC. The PMC basically executes the program planning and management.

NEST has three program areas namely training, community development and research and consultancy. The development communication and publication unit supports the programs as well as is active in information and advocacy activities.

NEST has established a regional office in Nepalgunj and extended services in the mid� and far�west development regions. NEST has employed 34 staffs that comprised a multi-disciplinary professional program team as well.

STRATEGIES AND APPROACHES

NEST wishes to foster collaborative approach in its implementation process. It is strongly committed to work with various development partners in different issues whoever they are or wherever they work even they work in extremely remote area in the country,. There has been already established a wider networking and working relationship with hundreds of partners i.e. NGOs, CBOs, GOs, and bilateral as well as multilateral organizations.

NEST highly emphasis on participatory approaches in organizational and operational level and show greater concern to ensure the quality services whatever it provides to its' clients. Moreover it is highly sensitive on gender & equity considering as vital issue for attaining the sustainable development goal. The major development approaches that NEST will consider for community development are : - Right-based Development Approach - Value-based Development Approach Integrated Agriculture- based Development Approach The experiences and learning gained by Community Development Department and Capacity Development Department will be exchanged each others to develop noble one. The aim of these development approaches is not only to address the issues of reintegration, re-construction of post-conflict situation but also to improve the food shortage problems ,socio-economic condition people which constitute large segment of population of Nepal.
